Which Commander Deck is right for you?
Picard, Spock, Worf, or the Borg Queen? Answer five questions, and the console will tell you which of the four decks suits your play style.

Fleet and Space Stations: Recharge spacecraft, protect creatures, draw cards. The deck for everyone who’d rather be on the bridge than on the front lines. The Enterprise-D fits right in here.

Away team on alien worlds. Landfall and Strange New Worlds reward many different lands, and the Captain Kirk, Boldly Going card helps you find them. For players who enjoy ramp and growth.

Lots of warriors, lots of pressure, and markers across the entire front. Attack before your opponent is ready. Today is a good day to die. The most aggressive of the four decks.

Assimilate instead of defeating: retrieve your opponent’s creatures from the graveyard, turn them into Borg, and strengthen them with artifact synergies. Resistance is futile. For control players who like to win with other people’s cards.

The New Mechanics in MTG Star Trek
Five new mechanics and one returning mechanic. Tap a term, and the console will display the explanation and an example card with the original text.
The Borg assimilate alien creatures. When you assimilate a creature, you put it onto the battlefield under your control, place a +1/+1 counter on it, and it becomes a Borg artifact creature. It loses all other creature types. This is the driving force behind the We Are the Borg deck.
Star Trek thrives on decisions, not battles. That’s why this set features many cards with modes. When you choose one or more modes for a spell or ability, you face a dilemma, and other cards reward you for that very moment.
The Federation is strong because it is diverse. Federation abilities count the creature types among your non-Borg creatures. With Vulcans, Klingons, officers, and scientists on the table, each of these cards becomes more powerful.
An instant or sorcery with “Beam me up” may be cast a second time from the graveyard. To do so, pay the listed cost and also beam one of your creatures back into your hand. Afterward, exile the card.
Discover strange new worlds: Cards with “Strange New Worlds” count how many differently named lands you control. Players who build decks with many different lands are rewarded. This fits well with the Shock Lands, which are returning in the same set.
Featured in Edge of Eternities. A spacecraft enters the game as an artifact. With Station, you tap another creature and place charge tokens on it equal to its power. Once a threshold is reached, the spacecraft becomes a creature. New in Star Trek: Some ships trigger an effect every time they are stationed, even after reaching the final threshold.
In addition, there are 21 new creature types—according to mtg.wiki, the most since Mirage: Andorian, Android, Borg, Caitian, Ferengi, Gorn, Kelpien, Klingon, Lanthanite, Orion, Q, Romulan, Talosian, Tellarite, Tholian, Tosk, Tribble, Vorta, Vulcan, Xindi, and Officer.
Play Booster or Collector Booster?
A Play Booster contains 14 cards, a Collector Booster 15. Tap a slot to see what might be there.
30 Booster Packs on display. At least one Foil and one Rare or Mythic in every pack.
12 Boosters on display. Ten Foil cards, four Rares or Mythics, and the signed headliners—available only here.
Headliner, LCARS, and Klingon
Seven types of special editions, ranging from the Enterprise’s computer console to William Shatner’s autograph. All figures are taken from the official Wizards collector’s guide.
This is a first for Magic: seven signed cards with no rule text, each signed by hand by the person who played the character. In other words, genuine autograph cards. The known cards include Captain Kirk signed by William Shatner, Captain Janeway signed by Kate Mulgrew, and Captain Picard signed by Patrick Stewart. Four designs are still to be revealed, and not all of them feature captains. According to Wizards, there are about 250 copies of each card, always in English and only available in Collector Boosters, regardless of the language.
The frame resembles the Enterprise-D’s computer console: a black background, colored bars, and rounded corners. It appears on 29 cards, plus all ten Shock Lands. It’s included in Play and Collector Boosters as a non-Foil and Traditional Foil version, and as a Surge Foil version only in Collector Boosters.
Illustrated in the style of old movie posters, with their own frames. 24 cards, available without Foil and as Traditional Foil in both Booster types, and as Surge Foil only in Collector Boosters.
Borderless cards that combine to form large scenes. 25 of them are included in Play and Collector Boosters; four scenes are still a secret. The two Scene Boxes each contain six additional cards in Traditional Foil, available exclusively in these boxes: Enterprise-Q featuring the bridge crew of the Enterprise-D and Divergent Timeline featuring Kirk on the bridge of the Kelvin timeline.
General Chang is available in a version written entirely in Klingon, using pIqaD script with hexagonal mana symbols. Klingon cards appear only in Collector Boosters.
The set’s bonus sheet: 30 powerful Magic cards from the past, redesigned as Star Trek characters. Sheoldred, the Apocalypse becomes Khan, Engineered Evil. Not available as Foil in Play and Collector Boosters; available as Traditional Foil only in Collector Boosters. In one out of every 25 Play Boosters, a Stardates card replaces a Common. Legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage, but not in Standard.
The ten Shock Lands are back
All ten Shock Lands are in the Main Set and are therefore Standard-legal again. Each has two basic land types and enters the battlefield untapped if you pay 2 life. In the Collector Booster, they’re also available in the LCARS frame and as Surge Foils.
The Four Commander Decks in Detail
100 cards: one Commander in Traditional Foil with borderless artwork, plus 99 other cards, 32 of which are new to Magic. Also included are ten double-sided tokens, a reference card, and a deck box. Each deck is also available as a Collector’s Edition: all 100 cards in Surge Foil, including the Commander and tokens.
Fleet and Space Stations: Deploy spacecraft, protect creatures, draw cards. The deck for anyone who’d rather be on the bridge than on the front lines.
The Enterprise-D fits right in here.
Field team on alien worlds. Landfall and Strange New Worlds reward many different lands, and the Captain Kirk, Boldly Going card picks them out for you.
For players who enjoy ramp and growth.
Many warriors, intense pressure, and markers across the entire front. Attack before the enemy is ready. Today is a good day to die.
The most aggressive of the four decks.
Assimilate instead of defeating: retrieve enemy creatures from the graveyard, turn them into Borg, and strengthen them with artifact synergies. Resistance is futile.
For control players who like to win with other people’s cards.
Deck colors and faces, according to Wizards and TheGamer. The complete deck lists will follow with the previews.
