This edition, like Modern Horizons before it, added new cards to the Modern and Eternal formats without legalizing them in Standard. It includes a number of new toolbox cards as well as great themes to try out and a few throwbacks.
This set contains 303 normal cards (101 Commons, 100 Uncommons, 78 Rares and 24 mythic Rares) as well as premium copies of all cards that happen to be included. In the set, all five of your opponent’s colored fetch lands are Uncommon and can be discovered in Standard draft Boosters. For the fetch lands and many other cards, the set and Collector Boosters offer enhanced art versions and retro (pre-modern) card frame treatments.
The set was intended to have a higher level of strength and complexity and offer more of what players liked about Modern Horizons. It had access to a larger number of mechanisms and eventually included 59 non-perpetual mechanisms. Some of them are mixed. It also uses more legendary creatures and relies a bit more heavily on multicolor.
A Modern Horizons 2 Collector Booster contains 15 playable cards:
1 Rare or Mythic with extended artwork
1 Foil Rare or Mythic
9 Foil Commons or Uncommons
3 special-frame cards like Showcase cards or Borderless Planeswalkers
1 additional card that belongs to this set but cannot be found in other Boosters (such as the Buy-a-Box Promo)
1 Foil token
