The Schwert & Schild era has officially come to an end. Purpur and Karmesin bring a breath of fresh air to the Pokémon TCG!
The previously classic yellow edges of the cards will be replaced with silver ones – as is usual for Japanese Pokémon cards.

In addition, the ”ex mechanic” will celebrate its return in the Purpur & Karmesin block. The first leaks about the new ”ex cards” have already been announced. The ex-Pokémon of this generation can have any level and are not simply basic Pokémon.

Another important change concerns the retail price of Pokémon TCG products. The price of a Booster will increase from 3.99 USD to 4.49 USD. This is probably a consequence of the worldwide inflation and scarcity of resources. In return, each Booster comes with three new guaranteed Foil cards. All cards of rarity level Rare or higher will be Foil in the future. The teracrystallization mechanic introduced in the Switch games will also be included in the game. An example already exists in the form of Arkani ex:

Here are two pictures of the new card style. Energy cards now look very different and the set symbol has also disappeared. We now find a set description (SVI EN) at the bottom left, which makes it much easier 🙂

It remains to be seen whether, as in the games, Pokémon that are Teracrystallized can have types other than their original type. The Purpur & Karmesin & Purpur Base Set can probably be expected in Europe around the end of February – beginning of March.
The new card design definitely brings a breath of fresh air to the Pokémon TCG and we are excited to see what else awaits us. I personally like the silver borders & the customization of the cards. What do you think?
