The last color of the One Piece trading card game – yellow

One Piece Card Game Yellow Leader

The One Piece trading card game is already a huge success in Japan and other Asian countries. Here in Germany, too, pre-orders for the first set ”Romance Dawn” are already sold out everywhere.

We have known for some time that the second set ”OP02 Paramount War” (better known to us as Marine Ford War) will feature the fifth color ”Black”. Now the sixth and final color has also been announced on the official One Piece website: Yellow. There has been much speculation about the color identity of the TCG’s final color. Will it be white? What mechanics will it bring with it? Now we know: ”Life Ramp”!

Or in other words, manipulate the ”Security Stack” (Digimon terminology) or ”Life” (The Five Cards).

One Piece Card Game Yellow Leader

The mechanic originally comes from the Digimon trading card game. There, yellow archetypes sometimes have the option of adding new cards to their security stack or exchanging them. Due to the ”trigger” mechanic, this can be extremely powerful. It is also important to mention that life is ”FORCED” from the deck at the start of the game. It is therefore unclear whether a trigger effect will take place at all until the time of effective damage, i.e. when a life has to be taken. For all those who currently only understand the basics, here is an example of trigger effects:

”Paradise Waterfall” and ”Basil Hawkins” are now different types of trigger effects. ”Paradise” Waterfall allows the player to destroy one of the opponent’s ”rested” characters with cost 4 or lower when the card is drawn from the deck. ”Basil Hawkins” plays itself onto the field, giving you an additional creature without paying the necessary cost (four in this example). It turns out: ”Trigger” effects can be extremely powerful. Of course, only cards of the same color as the Leader Karten can be played in the One Piece trading card game. It therefore remains to be seen which yellow cards will appear for Charlotte Linlin and what trigger effects they will bring with them. Being able to deliberately put cards with trigger effects into your life is hugely powerful and can definitely become a very strong mechanic in the One Piece TCG.
